The Secret of Asperger Works
Hello! My name is Joedy, I’m currently a college student attending Middlesex Community College in Lowell, Massachusetts. My area of specialty as someone would say or in the words of my major is in the field of Child Psychology. Just a few weeks into my second semester of college, I was introduced to Asperger Works as part of an internship requirement for my program of study. Notice that I said the word “requirement” in order to emphasize my point that I had no idea what I was getting myself into. However, that all changed the day I met the kind personnel at Asperger Works.
Their charisma and enthusiasm to help the community of Lawrence, especially those with Asperger’s allowed me to realize the impact we could have in helping those in need. Here at Asperger Works, we focus on prioritizing the fact that those with Asperger’s are not dysfunctional but rather high functioning individuals. An individual with Asperger’s should not be perceived as a burden or even as incapable of performing certain tasks. The truth is that a person with Asperger’s can do the same work as any “normal” individual or even better and faster. The most important aspect of a person on the Autistic Spectrum is that they are willing to learn and excel at any given opportunity.
If perfection, amazing, and outstanding could be put into a single word it would be Asperger Works. The work we, as an organization, and as volunteers accomplish on engaging the community is the perfect thing to do. The way we are trying to get Asperger’s to be well-known is amazing due to the fact that the disorder is fairly often misunderstood. At last, my experience with Asperger Work was OUTSTANDING. I encourage every single person who is willing to help their community and even the world to volunteer at Asperger Works. I can almost promise that once you step into the office and begin as a volunteer your whole perspective of the world will change. Always remember that when someone else’s happiness becomes your happiness, that is love. By volunteering at Asperger Works you will make others happy, therefore, allowing you to feel passionate about the work you will be doing.
